Building Community

Five generations worship at Community Church. Some of us live in Mill Valley and others come from as far away as Santa Rosa and San Francisco. We are busy individuals who love getting together so we work hard at building community both in the church and in the wider community.

INFORMAL GATHERINGS

Coffee and Conversation
After worship every Sunday we gather in the Tamalpais Hall for refreshments and conversation.

Parties and Fundraisers
The Fellowship Task Force sponsors parties (e.g. Three Kings Day in January), a barbecue at the beginning of the summer, a Bay cruise in the fall, and one special fundraiser dinner with wine and all the trimmings each year.

CHURCH GROUPS

Volunteer Choir
Everyone who loves to sing is welcome to join the choir. Under the expert direction of Esther Archer, the choir rehearses each Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and for an additional hour after coffee hour two times each month. (They take a break during the summer.) To join the choir all you have to do is speak to Esther to let her know that you are interested and then come to rehearsal.

Music Director
Esther Archer, our Music Director, is a fine pianist, cellist, and organist with extensive experience as a choir director and vocal coach. She graduated with Music Honors from the University of California at Berkeley and earned her Master of Music degree at the University of Michigan in piano accompaniment and chamber music in 1997.

Triple C
CCC meets three times a year during the day for lunch and a special program featuring a guest speaker and for a Christmas tea in early December. The meetings are in the Tamalpais Hall on the first Wednesday of the month. Watch the "Of Good Report" newsletter for the dates.

Men’s Lunch Bunch
The men of the church gather for a relaxed, no-agenda, just-for-fun lunch at Moylan’s in Novato on the first Wednesday and at Marin Brewing Company at Larkspur Landing on the third Thursday of every month.

Housing and Services for Seniors
Fifth Sunday Worship at The Redwoods
A group of volunteers leads worship for the residents of the Health Care Center of The Redwoods at 1:15 p.m. every month that has a fifth Sunday.

The Redwoods
The Community Church Retirement Center is a non-denominational, not-for-profit organization founded and sponsored by the Community Church of Mill Valley in 1972 to fill the need for a non-profit, affordable residence for older adults of moderate means. Today, a cooperative and supportive relationship between the center and the church continues through our volunteers who serve the residents in a number of ways two church members who serve on The Redwoods Board of Directors, and the many church members who make their home there.

Minister in Covenant
Jacquie Hoffman is our minister in covenant who serves as the Property Supervisor for seniors with limited incomes through Mercy Housing in the San Francisco Region. Jacquie’s work includes everything from developing new subsidized housing to offering pastoral counseling to administration.
